We welcome the assumption of office of the new Iraqi Government headed by Haider al-Abadi yesterday evening (8 September) after receiving a vote on confidence and wish them success. Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu have phoned their respective Iraqi colleagues to congratulate them on the occasion of the formation of the government.

We hope that the new government will embrace the people of Iraq with all its components and pursue policies that will enable overcoming the challenging problems that the country experiences today and bring peace and prosperity to Iraqi people. In this context, itis of great importance that appropriate appointments are made to the offices of Minister of Defense and Minister of Interior without delay with a view to resolving the security problems that Iraq confronts. We invite all the political factions in Iraq to act in common sense and with a spirit of compromise and to take advantage of this opportunity that holds great importance for strengthening the country's unity and integrity.
